Abstract

Studies on the effects of soil moisture and management factors on the texture of radish (Raphanus iztivus L. var. niger (Mill.) S, Kerner) were carried out. The texture of radish was determined with Kramer Shear Press after it was grown in Mitscherlich-pot at three different moisture contents (50, 70 and 90% field capacity) and in green house under various management factors (seasons, harvesting period and fertilizaton).
The texture value was lower at higher level of soil moisture. The texture value was the lowest in summer, but there were no significant difference between in spring and in autumn. Generally it showed decreasing tendency until main harvesting period and there after it increasing.
The effects of fertilization on texture were not detected. There could be founded a correlationship between texture and size of plant (width and length of leaves, diameter and length of roots). It was also found that the texture value was positively correlated with T/R ratio.
